Before it ever hands you an item, ProtonAuctions does a dry run.

It checks before it gives

Rather than shove an item into your inventory and hope it fits, the plugin first works out whether it actually will, slot by slot, respecting stack sizes and merging with stacks you already hold. Only if the item genuinely fits does it get delivered.

A full inventory never costs an item

If there is not enough room, the item is never forced in and lost. By default it goes straight to the Claim Bin, waiting for you to make space and collect it. A full inventory is not a problem, the item simply waits.
