No Suggestions Yet
The most common question about the engine is why it is not showing prices yet. Almost always the answer is simply that it does not have enough to go on, and that is by design.
I just installed it and /ah suggest says nothing. Why?
A fresh engine spends its first day (24 hours by default) collecting real trades before it offers any opinion, so its first suggestions rest on real activity rather than a lucky handful of sales. This is the grace period. Until it passes, and the engine has trained once, you will see a message rather than a price.
The grace period is over, but some items still have no price.
The engine prices an item only once it has seen enough real sales of it. Popular items cross that line quickly, and rare ones take longer, simply because there is less to learn from. For items with almost no history it can still offer a rough, low-confidence estimate from similar items, but only if you leave that option on.
An item sells, but the engine still ignores those sales.
Some sales do not count toward prices: sales in a currency with no exchange rate yet, which /ahadmin currencies lists in red, sales by banned players, and trades with a server shop, which set price limits instead of prices. See Multi-Currency and How Hooks Work. If your server shop both buys and sells an item the engine cannot price yet, /ah suggest shows the middle of the two shop prices instead.
My server is small and quiet. Will it ever suggest prices?
It will, but more slowly, because it needs real trades to learn from and a quiet server produces fewer. On a small server, expect suggestions on your common, frequently-traded items and long silences on everything else. That silence is the engine being honest, not broken.
How do I know what state it is in?
Ask it. Running /ah suggest on an item tells you plainly whether the engine is still in its warmup, still collecting, or active but short on data for that item. See Warmup & Grace for the stages.
