Bidding
How auctions (BID listings) work for buyers.
- Open an auction and place a bid above the current top bid, by at least the minimum increment.
- Your money is not taken when you bid. Only the winner pays, and only when the auction ends, so being outbid costs you nothing.
- If the auction has a buyout, bidding at or above it, or using Instant Buyout, ends the auction right away and you win at the buyout price. You pay the buyout price, never more, even if your bid was higher.
Anti-snipe. A bid placed in the final moments extends the auction by a short time, so a last-second bid cannot win uncontested. The window and the extension are set in config.yml.
When the auction ends, the top bidder is charged their bid, the seller is paid minus tax, and the item is delivered to the winner's claim bin or inventory, depending on the server's delivery settings. If the winner cannot pay, the server falls back to returning the item to the seller, offering it to the next-highest bidder, or relisting it, whichever the owner has configured. Everyone involved is told what happened, including a top bidder beaten by a buyout and a winner who could not pay.
For sellers
Once someone has bid on your auction, you can no longer cancel it, so a bid is never pulled out from under the bidder. It runs to the end, and staff can still force-end it. A server can allow cancels anyway with allowCancelWithBids in config.yml.
