Beta FAQ
The questions that come up most about running ProtonAuctions while it is in beta. For questions about the economy engine see the Engine FAQ, and for security and licensing see the Security FAQ.
Is it really free?
Yes. ProtonAuctions is free for the whole public beta. Your download carries its own key, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to enter.
Will I be charged later?
No. You are never billed for the beta. The stable release will be a paid product, but that is a separate, opt-in purchase. Nothing is taken from you automatically.
What happens to my server when the beta ends?
When the stable version is released, the beta winds down and the beta keys are switched off. A beta key will not unlock the paid stable build, and once a key is switched off its beta build stops running on that server. It is gradual and well signposted. It starts on day one with suspicious keys and dead or inactive servers, the most active servers are switched off last with the most warning, up to around thirty days, and every server gets in-game and console reminders telling it how long is left before its licence ends. Before your key ends you can move to a paid Standard or Enterprise licence to carry on, or switch to another plugin. Your data stays yours either way. The full timeline is on Beta Pricing. This applies only to the free beta, a paid licence is never switched off this way.
Can I run it on my main server?
The transaction core, the part that moves money and items, is the most mature piece and is safe to run, especially on a single server with SQLite. The network features, a shared database and Redis, are still maturing, so roll those out gradually. Check Feature Status for where each part stands.
Will my data and settings carry over to the stable release?
Yes. Your data is encrypted to your installation rather than your licence, so it stays yours and readable no matter what, and your config.yml carries over. See Integrity & Licensing.
I found a problem. What do I do?
Tell us, that is the whole point of a beta. See Bug Reports for what to include and where to send it.
