When you first add the engine, it does not know your server yet, so it watches quietly before it says anything. That first stretch is the grace period.

Why it waits

Imagine hiring someone to price your shop on their first day. You would want them to watch a few real sales before they start giving advice, not guess from nothing. The engine works the same way. For the first day (24 hours by default) it just collects real trades and keeps its opinions to itself, so its first suggestions rest on real activity rather than a lucky handful of sales.

The wait is remembered. Restarting your server does not start it over.

When advice turns on

Once the warmup is over, the engine starts helping as soon as it has learned enough about an item. Popular items get advice quickly. Rare ones take longer, simply because there is less to learn from, and until then the engine stays quiet for that item rather than guessing.

Starting fresh

If you wipe your auction data for a new season or a reset, the engine notices and gives itself a fresh warmup, so it never prices your new economy from the ghost of the old one. You can leave this on and forget about it.

The length of the warmup lives under economyEngine.gracePeriod in config.yml.
